Vegan Junk Food (Shit You Had No Clue Was Vegan)
Vegans love their fruits and vegetables, but sometimes we just want some junk food. Munchie, crunchy, sweet or savory. Bring it on. Homemade treats are awesome, but often we just don’t have the time to start from scratch. Lucky for us, we have go to junk food that’s as vegan as fuck. Some of the following might surprise you. No animals harmed here, so don’t feel too bad.
Oreo cookies are an American staple. I couldn’t believe they were vegan. You would definitely think milk would be in their creamy centers, but NO! Remember, we call this junk food for a reason. They are far from healthy, but oh so good. Double stuffed are my favorites.
SUPER PRETZEL BAKED SOFT PRETZELS
These pretzels rock. They are a great treat. We love to dip them in our homemade vegan cheese sauce, slather them with Kite Hill vegan cream cheese with chives, or spread on Colman’s English mustard. Normally, we have to fight the kids off with a stick so they don’t eat all these up immediately after we’ve purchased them.
DORITOES SPICY SWEET CHILI
OOOOOOHHHH, these are good. Just as their title claims, these Doritos are spicy and sweet. We love the chili goodness. These are addicting. We throw them on vegan lunch meat sandwiches, melt vegan cheese shreds over them, and eat whole bags on their own.
DUNCAN HINES CAKE MIXES
Many of their cake mixes are vegan.
- Classic White
- Moist Deluxe Butter Golden
- Classic Carrot
- Coconut Supreme
- Swiss Chocolate
- Devil’s Food
- Lemon Supreme
DUNCAN HINES FROSTINGS
- Classic Chocolate
- Coconut Pecan
- Dark Chocolate
- Lemon Supreme
- Strawberry Cream
Pair them up. Remember, its junk food, not nutritious for you food. Indulge when you get the rare chance. I made a Classic White Cake yesterday for Mother’s Day. I found a recipe where you add a can of soda pop instead of the oil and eggs. I added a can of Sprite. It turned out super good and was super easy.
PILLSBURY CRESENT ROLLS
I have found that most crescent rolls are vegan. They are buttery and flaky. You can wrap them around Field Roast sausages and make pigs in a blanket. There is no butter. They aren’t healthy. They are fun. Spread on some vegan butter when warm for a wonderful feeling.
HERSHEY’S CHOCOLATE SYRUP
Add it to hot chocolate. Mix it with peanut butter. Melt in microwave. Pour over nondairy ice cream. Add to a glass of Almond milk. Squeeze into frosting mixes. Drizzle some over strawberries. Pour it on a spoon and lick until gone.
NATURE VALLEY GRANOLA BARS
These guys pack a punch of crunch. There are a variety of flavors. Some are vegan. Some are not! Read the ingredients list. New varieties always seem to pop up.
GIRL SCOUT THIN MINTS
Lucky for us, these dark chocolate minty addiction cookies are only for offer once a year. We try not to buy too many, as we can crush a sleeve of them in one sitting. As a bonus tip, keep them in the freezer. The cold makes them even better.
LAY’S POTATO CHIPS
Remember the old advertisement? No one can eat just one! Beware! They are that good. I love putting them on sandwiches to give them extra crunch. I even put them as a secret ingredient (until now) into my Thanksgiving stuffing recipe.
All varieties are vegan!
- Blue Raspberry
- Green Apple
- Mystery Flavor
MARIE CALLENDER’S FROZEN PIES
- Apple Pie
- Razzle berry Pie
- Cherry Crunch Pie
- Lattice Apple Pie
- Lattice Peach Pie
CAPTAIN CRUNCH PEANUT BUTTER CRUNCH
Enjoy your bowl of cereal, but I love to snack on these by themselves or crumble them on top of my nondairy ice cream.
NABISCO GRAHAM CRACKERS
You can spread Miyoko’s Vegan Butter on for an easy treat. Spread on peanut butter, dip in ice cream, and melt dark chocolate on. As a kid, my mother would spread them with buttercream frosting and make them like little frozen sandwich treats. Cheap and amazing.
BREYER’S NONDAIRY ICE CREAM
I just happened to stumble across these creamy vegan delights one day, always on the lookout for new vegan products to try. We tried the Cookies and Cream version first. Youi could not tell that the ice cream was vegan. The kid’s loved it as much as we did. The next flavor was their Vanilla Peanut Butter! My Oh My! Just as delicious. These products are so good that we rarely buy them. Why? We can’t stop shoving this ice cream down our throats.
NUTTER BUTTER COOKIES
Who doesn’t love peanut butter cookies? These peanut cream filled delights satisfy any sweet tooth.
All varieties are vegan. These are made primarily with corn syrup, flour, and artificial flavorings. All sorts of flavors to choose from including strawberry, green apple, and raspberry wild berry lemonade.
CRACKER JACK CARAMEL COATED POPCORN
Popcorn, sugar, salt, peanuts, molasses, and corn syrup are the main ingredients. An American favorite for 120 years.
Remember, these are delightful, but they are junk food. Enjoy!
