Vegan chili that is! Our family loves chili. Chili is the perfect comfort food on cold winter evenings. Meaty, rich, tomato based goodness cooked for hours and loaded with tons of healthy spices is the perfect fix for a hungry soul in a warm house. I just made a huge batch, but not for my family this time. This perfection of deliciousness is headed to the Harbor House Bar and Grill in Huron, Ohio tonight for their chili cook off.
Chili cook off? Isn’t that for meat eaters? Tonight it isn’t. We have paid the entrance fee like everyone else. At the moment, there are six contestants. We hope to kick ass. We are sure that we are the only vegans. We want to showcase how awesome and surprisingly tasty vegan food is.
The winning award of first place includes a $50 gift card to the Harbor House and the usual coveted trophy to proudly display on our mantle.
We aren’t claiming vegan early on because of the sheer disregard and disrespect of dishes that don’t contain cut up animal parts. “ Eeeeewwwwww, I’m not trying that stuff with those weird vegan soy crumbles! You vegans are so odd. I want my chili with the normal ground up animal corpses.
Yes, them damn vegans are something special thinking that eating plant-based is spot on and dead animal eating is crazy as hell.
It’s always so interesting to me how so many people won’t try something just because it’s labeled as vegan.
SADLY, AT ONE TIME, I WAS THE SAME WAY. YES, EMBARRASSING AS HELL NOW AND I CAN’T BELIEVE I WAS EVER THAT IGNORANT.
We are so ingrained in our lives as children, with our families, influenced by our friends, coworkers, bosses; it’s always just been so easy to go along with the majority.
How will I ever live without cheese? My teeth were made for eating meat. Why aren’t you dead from malnutrition?
Our struggles are so much more with non-vegans and their usual guilty questions and accusations than with our own movement.
No, it’s not a religion!
No, it’s not a cult!
Yes, its freedom, compassion, and a flip on all us were comfortably embracing most of our lives.
Let’s get back to our fantastic chili. It’s a game changer. It’s a super incentive for the meat eaters that could never give up meat.
Black beans, garbanzo beans, kidney beans, tomato paste, crushed tomatoes, vegetable broth, onions, tons and tons of spices, and everything in between.
Tonight’s going to be a good night! Check us out on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for videos and updates throughout the evening!
